Sunday of All Saints...or Finding God in Church
A man and His family were at church yesterday... Daughter was distracted and her godmother was not there yet. This troubled daughter and she sulked in the corner, sitting on a pew against the wall. Her father was also distracted, wanting family to stand together and pray in one accord. Father went over to daughter and after several attempts to get daughter to join the family, decided to try something different.
Father asked daughter to come outside.
"Please, I don't want to be in trouble.", said daughter. Father motioned her to follow him and out the door they went. Father headed for the side of the church where the baby geese were eating and scratching near the pond, daughter reluctantly following.
Father knelt down and crossed himself and said, " I want you to think of these little birds, how happy they are. God is feeding them and taking care of their needs. He loves them. God loves you too, daughter. Your father searched his whole life to find out who it was that feeds these birds and makes the grass grow and gives everything life. He found out in this church. And this is what your father wants for you because nothing else is as important as finding and getting to know God."
Father and daughter sat a few more moments, enjoying the sun and the sounds of the baby geese and then got up and went back into the church. The priest called to the congregation, "Again and again, let us pray to the Lord." And like a fairy godmother, daughter's was now sitting in her appropriate place. Family stood and sang out in response, "Lord have mercy!"
Thank you for this very nice post. The geese were a good illustration.
