Know your blogger...

It has been a wonderful few years on this blog and while I've offered some of my conversion story for thought, I have never divulged who I am completely. This has not been due to anything devious, but because I fear ridicule and it has been easier to hide behind the messages, much not my own anyways.

My baptismal name is Germanus and I am a father of three and husband. I converted ten years ago and was baptised nearly nine years ago in Portland, Or. in the OCA.

Those opinions expressed in my more personal posts are not necessarily the doctrine of the faith, but my own fallible attempt at understanding Orthodoxy as it has been handed down to me.

As a young man in my twenties I sought to find the mystical experience humanity can have in relation to God. I chose to practice and study meditation, Holy Scripture, world religions, history and any writings I thought would me to the truth. Trusting in the promise of God layer out in the Bible, to "seek the Kingdom of God first, and all things shall be added unto you", I sought truth above all else and when I came to certain conclusions through practical experience, if I still assessed that I had not reached a path to (what the Greeks call Theosis) than I would leave that information behind and begin seeking again. This eventually lead me to discover the Orthodox Christian faith.

My blog began as a way to express what I was learning or had not discovered, a primer for Orthodoxy and a journal. It has become my tiny ministry and currently reaches an ever-expanding average of 1500 visitors per month with well over 8000 views over the last two years.
As my spiritual father recently brought to my attention, this is a big responsibility.

I hope that in the coming year I can offer a more interactive blog, and an opportunity to create a forum of open discussion on the faith which I have been given, the faith which established the universe.

I pray that what I offer here is edifying to the souls of my readership and that God is glorified. That my opinions always be in line with the teachings of the apostles, and that my own failings never hinder the growth of those who frequent this little hut in the blogosphere.

May we all live to seek truth above all else and may you have a blessed Nativity as we celebrate the King of All, who comes as a newborn babe, to save the world from the sickness of Sin, restoring Adam to his rightful glory. In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. One God. Amen. +
